I thought The Doorway was my story and then the spirit world worked its’ magic
and turned it into something much greater.
I was born essentially blind and was misdiagnosed as being mentally slow.
I had five older siblings.
All of them straight A students.
However when I, little Neal, came along it was a different story.
To my parents and siblings I was mentally slow, and I was most definitely very clumsy.
When it was time for me to read I couldn’t do it.
My parents took me to see a doctor.
They diagnosed (little Neal) as, and I’ll use this term once and only once, but it was the word that was used on me daily.
They diagnosed me as retarded.
Nowadays we would say I was mentally challenged.
However, this kind way of saying it was not my experience.
